Welcome to Nursery School of the Arts,
where talent is natural and excellence is a choice.
Thank you for taking an interest in our institute. ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ is a popular registered nursery school situated in Edenvale. Founded in 2012 by three qualified teachers who are passionate in creating a well-rounded foundation for children in the pre-primary phase. Combined they bring over 60 years’ experience in Early Childhood Development. In just a short time the nursery school has welcomed children from around the world and parents from all walks of life.
Our skilled staff understands that every child is unique, and we believe in educating children in a nurturing environment. ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ offers an opportunity to establish a strong foundation for learning that will be beneficial for your child in their future schooling career.
Our Philosophy
We believe in teaching through ways that speak to your child's passionate and playful spirit. We have created a balance of Education & Cultural Arts promoting ‘Whole Brain Development’.
Curriculum
In our approach we believe children simply, need to be children. Our numbers in the classrooms are kept small and the basis of our education is to progressively increase formal school work at a pace that is not overwhelming for your child. This process builds understanding, confidence and a sense of achievement. By Grade R level, children have the self-assurance, stamina and focus to sit and concentrate, forming a stable foundation that has them prepared for ‘big school’.
The Arts
Talent discovered at an early age and nurtured throughout their school career can create a strong foundation for a child in a world that is continuously changing.

Sunny Side Up Program
Since the opening in 2012, ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ has been supporting underprivileged children. Through our charity work we contribute to orphanages through collections and donations from our attending families. Our hearts go out to these little ones, so young, so small, their futures uncertain. We as a place of learning, feel it is our duty to offer these children an education where they may grow, flourish and above all, to let them know that they are important and loved.
Our ‘Sunny Side Up Program’ is offered to prospective companies, businesses or individuals that would like to sponsor an underprivileged child to attend ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ until they are Grade 1 school ready.
For more information please contact our office.

We cater for children with special dietary requirements e.g. vegan, vegetarian, food allergies etc. The menu rotates every 3 weeks. View our typical menu here: Click Here for Menu

Physical Fitness
Children need to be active every day to promote healthy growth and development. At ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ the teachers coach through structured play, which involves activities that encourage a child to make healthy choices. Our activities have been designed to focus on specific learning objectives, such as strengthening large muscle groups, co-ordination, listening skills, helping others, constructive routines including strength training, crossing the mid-line, hoops and ball sports. This assists with spatial awareness, balance, posture, core strength, co-ordination and ball skills. Other important benefits include: fitness, concentration, relaxation, endurance, body awareness and flexibility.
Yoga & Mindfulness
Mindfulness helps children remain grounded and simply be in the present moment, at ‘Nursery School of the Arts’, we transform the classroom into a tranquil space where the children take some time to be calm and focused. We teach ‘Mindful Breathing’, ‘Mindful Listening’ and ‘Mindful seeing’. These exercises have been shown to be an invaluable tool to help bolster children’s resilience to psychological stress and show an overall improvement in concentration, focus, memory, depth of thought, happiness and achievement.
Our Yoga sessions are performed with a qualified instructor and has been implemented into our weekly routine. Yoga is meditative by nature, so whether a child is sitting in meditation, holding a balancing posture or moving through a series of poses, there will be a calming and relaxing result. Many benefits include; body awareness, flexibility, muscle strength, core strength, crossing the mid-line, co-ordination and over all wellbeing.
Music
Music Listening & Music Performance/Activity stimulates the body and the mind to work together, as well as promoting right and left brain function. We place importance on rhythmicity and timing as this plays an important role in co-ordination and cognitive stimulation. It has also been proven to build the foundation for emotional and intellectual development. Group music classes allows children to create music together forming a wonderful feeling of ‘team work’. The children will also be exposed to a variety of instruments such as guitar, piano, drums, violin, marimbas etc.

Dance
Children move innately early in life. When the movements become conscious and structured, performing with awareness, it transforms into dance. Through dance, children utilize the entire body and all of its muscle groups, developing muscle tone, posture, builds core strength, assists with position in space and crossing the mid-line.
Not only does dance benefit physical fitness, it helps children develop socially and teaches them to express their emotions. Dance also teaches dedication, discipline and focus – these life skills are important to learn at an early age and are the building blocks to succeeding in any career choice.
Children not attending the school are welcome to join private group classes held at ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ premises on Friday afternoons. Starting from the age of 3 years and older. For more information please contact: kbackos76@gmail.com
Drama
Knowing how to communicate is a fundamental part of life. Communication includes listening, speaking, concentrating and interpreting body language. Drama classes allow for creativity to be unleashed, all the while improving conversation skills, listening skills, concentration & vocabulary. Confidence is boosted in classes through skills such as voice projection, self-expression and self-control.
Art
Art is a language that allows for self-expression, imagination and creativity. Exposure to any artistic activity stimulates both sides of the brain. Art activities generate an increase in memory capacity, improves attention and focus. Whether with a paint brush, clay molding / scissor cutting the gross and fine motor dexterity and control are being developed. When practicing to improve, they learn to be persistent and consistent.
i-Math
i-Maths:
Also known as ‘Intelligent Mathematics’, this wonderful program has been incorporated into ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ curriculum.
The course is designed to provide young children from as young as 3 years old with a strong mathematical foundation to meet the higher standards of arithmetic used in modern science and technology. In i-Maths we focus on a child’s main occupations; through play the learners are educated to develop an understanding and love for math.
i-Maths encourages the child to think beyond the conventional method (1+1 = 2) and develop multiple ways to solve a problem. Learning by thinking, learning by doing.
EXTRAMURAL:
UCMAS is a BRAIN development program that develops the WHOLE brain by using fine motor movements on the Chinese abacus to integrate the left and the right hemispheres of the brain. Results show that every area of the brain is enhanced and developed, helping a child to achieve better marks in languages, sciences as well as math.
The child’s memory is expanded tremendously and the ability to learn things becomes faster.
During this process of developing the brain, children learn the ability to do fast mental calculations.
UCMAS Classes are held at ‘Nursery School of the Arts’ premises on Thursday afternoons from 13:00 pm – 16:00 pm. This is available as an extramural and is also open to children in primary school phase.
